New HIV Testing Recommendations

Vancouver Coastal Health, Providence Health and the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS recommend that an HIV test is offered to all adults who have not been tested in the past year. The following are good opportunities to offer an HIV test:
  • when you order bloodwork for any reason
  • when you test for or diagnose a sexually transmitted infection (STI)
  • when you test for or diagnose Hepatitis C or Tuberculosis
  • every time a patient requests an HIV test
  • when patients present with diagnoses, signs or symptoms that may be related to HIV infection.
Continue to routinely order HIV tests with prenatal bloodwork
